چکیده
With the increasing demand for mobile Internet access, WLAN virtualization is becoming a promising solution for sharing wireless infrastructure among multiple service providers. Unfortunately, few mechanisms have been devised to tackle this problem and the existing approaches fail in optimizing the limited bandwidth and providing virtual networks with fairness guarantees. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm based on control theory to configure the virtual WLANs with the goal of ensuring fairness in the resource distribution, while maximizing the total throughput. Our algorithm works by adapting the contention window configuration of each virtual WLAN to the channel activity in order to ensure optimal operation. We conduct a control-theoretic analysis of our system to appropriately design the parameters of the controller and prove system stability, and undertake an extensive A. The results show that the mechanism provides a fair resource distribution independent of the number of stations and their level of activity, and is able to react promptly to changes in the network conditions while ensuring stable operation.

Improving Throughput and Fairness in WLANs through Dynamically Optimizing Backoff
Given the limited channel capacity in wireless LANs, it is important to achieve high throughput and good fairness through medium access control (MAC) schemes. Although many schemes have been proposed to enhance throughput or fairness of the original IEEE 802.11 standard, they either fail to consider both throughput and fairness, or to do so with complicated algorithms. In this paper, we propose...

This paper investigates the virtualization and optimization of a multi-cell WLAN. We consider the station (STA)-access point (AP) association and airtime control for virtualized 802.11 networks to provide service customization and fairness across multiple internet service providers (ISPs) sharing the common physical infrastructure and network capacity. More specifically, an optimization problem...

In this paper we tackle the problem of providing Quality of Service guarantees to virtualized applications, focusing on computing and networking guarantees. We propose a mechanism for providing temporal isolation based on a CPU real time scheduling strategy. This allows not only to have control over the individual virtual machine throughput, but also on the activation latency and response-time ...
متن کاملScheduling for next generation WLANs: filling the gap between offered and observed data rates
In wireless networks, opportunistic scheduling is used to increase system throughput by exploiting multi-user diversity.Although recent advances have increased physical layer data rates supported inwireless local area networks (WLANs), actual throughput realized are significantly lower due to overhead. Accordingly, the frame aggregation concept is used in next generation WLANs to improve effici...
متن کاملImproving Tradeoff between Fairness and Throughput in Multi-rate WLANs: Simulated Annealing Approach
In a multi-rate environment fairness is not guaranteed, there is a tradeoff between fairness and throughput in such WLANs. To reduce the tradeoff problem we construct a novel intuitive simplified mathematical model called simplified coefficient of variation (SCV) model, we use SCV model to solve the optimization tradeoff problem through power control of APs, to improve balance between proportio...
